The Penny of Old

When I was about ten, my father gave me a penny from 1907. He told me that the penny had been handed down from generation to generation and that I was to give it to my son when I got older. I was so happy to be entrusted with something so precious. The penny itself was in great condition. The words were clearly visible, damage was minute, and it still shined as bright as the sun. My father explained to me that his father had given it to him when he returned from World War II. I couldn’t even fathom how much that penny had gone through over the years, the people it was carried by, the places it had been. What interested me the most was how the penny was different from most pennies. Instead of having Abraham Lincoln on the front, it had the head of an Indian. I found this intriguing so I decided to do a little research for myself. As it turns out, it is said that the creater of the penny saw his daughter with a feathered headress on and decided to sketch her. The result is what now lies on the 1907 penny. The main reason why I cherish the penny so much is that it was handed down to me from my father. I took great pride in the fact the he trusted me with it and swore to him that I would keep it safe until I handed it down to my son. This is why I considered the penny my most prized possesion
